Homeowners who install energy-efficient features including solar panels, insulation and water tanks can add up to $125,000 to their house's value, experts say.
Units can fetch $72,750 more when they boast the same sustainable add-ons, up to a 12.7 per cent difference, as buyers increasingly look for homes which won't cost a lot to heat or cool with energy prices on the rise.
The home's orientation, something only those building a property have much control over, also goes a long way to adding to its value, the Domain Sustainability in Property report said.
Those face north are attracting higher bids as it costs less to heat and cool as opposed to those facing south.
Experts forecast that buyers on the hunt for a sustainable home will likely increase over time as energy bills soar (pictured, a Sydney property auction)
