A battling pensioner struggling to keep up with the rising cost of living is taking drastic action to slash his bills by cutting off ALL his power every day.
Retiree Lofty, 74, from Newcastle, NSW, only keeps his electricity on briefly each day - and every morning, he goes outside to switch off his power supply at the meter.
But his biggest money-saving trick is recharging standard $1.25 batteries for his portable radio by putting them in his freezer.

'I put them in a plastic bag but only two at a time and put it in the freezer,' the canny pensioner told A Current Affair.
