Thursday 7 July 2022 05:03 PM Concrete mixer driver 'beat coffin maker, 20, over the head 20 times', court ... trends now A 64-year-old lorry driver accused of murdering a coffin maker claimed he had been having a sexual relationship with her but ended it because of the 44 year age gap, a court heard today. Neculai Paizan is accused of beating Hungarian Agnes Akom over the head more than 20 times inside a converted shipping container in Brent, northwest London, on May 9 last year. Paizan, who was born in Romania, stuffed the 20-year-old's body in a wheelie bin but then moved it to a park and buried it in a shallow grave under a pile of logs, jurors have heard. Ms Akom was reported missing on May 11 and her body was not found for a month. The last person she had been in contact with on her phone was Paizan and the last area her phone was used was by the Lennox Autos car dealership next to the shipping container. On May 18, officers went to Lennox Autos, found the nearby container empty and began to search it. Paizan arrived as police were beginning their search. Prosecutors told the Old Bailey the trucker was returning from a visit to Neasden Recreation Ground where he had buried Ms Akom. Paizan revisited the site six times in the days after he dumped the body, the court heard. Paizan allegedly told the officer he had last seen Ms Akom two weeks ago in Cricklewood. He said they went to Sainsburys together and then drove to the container where she stayed for 15 minutes before he dropped her off at a nearby Asda. He is also said to have told police that Ms Akom had been speaking to someone on her phone and that she was going to meet them in Croydon. Another officer asked Paizan if he had had a sexual relationship with Ms Akom. The prosecutor said: ‘He said he had, two or three times, but not since a year or so before. ‘He said that he was shy and she was too young. The scene at Neasden Recreation Park where police have found the remains of Ms Akom The discovery was made by police officers searching for Ms Akom after she vanished in May ‘He said that she always wanted him to give or lend her money and that she had too many friends. ‘He said that he did not like this situation. ‘He suggested that the officers check the CCTV cameras covering the container.’ Paizan was taken to Wembley Police Station and interviewed as a witness. In the interview, he told officers he had met Ms Akom 18 months before, the court heard. ‘He had seen her begging,’ Mr Hallam said. ‘He said they had had a sexual relationship but he had ended it because she was too young.’ Paizan estimated to officers that they had had sex 10-15 times, including at the container, jurors heard. Mr Hallam went on: ‘He told the police in that witness interview that on 9 May he had collected Agnes and had taken her to an address in Willesden where she had gone inside for between 10-15 minutes. ‘They had stopped at the container for a short while. ‘While they were inside the container they hugged but she said they should go. ‘He then took her to the Asda in Park Royal where they parted company.’ After the interview, Paizan was labelled a suspect as his account did not match the CCTV footage he told police to check, the court heard. Hours later, at around 11:30pm, Paizan was arrested on suspicion of murder and false imprisonment. Paizan denies murder and the trial continues.
