According to Geoscience Australia, the earthquake struck in the Banda Sea, Darwin at 10.59pm and was recorded at a depth of 156km. There are no reports of damage. The Bureau of Meteorology confirmed there was no tsunami threat to the Australian coastline. Olympic gold medallist Nova Peris said that she felt the tremor: 'Just felt a little earthquake in Darwin'. Other Territorians also commented on feeling their rooms shaking.
