A woman named Liz Trussell, who many politicians confused for Liz Truss on Twitter, is a big fan of her namesake, her mother has revealed.

Liz Trusell, 40, claimed the Twitter handle @Liztruss before the incoming Prime Minister, whose own handle is @trussliz - leading to congratulations being sent to the wrong person after Boris Johnson's replacement was announced yesterday.

Even Sweden's Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson tweeted a message of support to the wrong Liz before swiftly deleting it, though not before Ms Trussell cheekily replied.

'Congratulations to Liz Truss, who will assume the role of Prime Minister of the UK. Sweden and UK will continue our deep and extensive cooperation. Important for our citizens, economies and security,' Sweden's PM wrote. 

'Looking forward to a visit soon! Get the meatballs ready,' Ms Trussell - who boasts 2475 followers and is following 127- said in a reply. 

Her mother Yvonne says she's a big fan of her namesake - and would have loved to have met the Queen today.

Speaking from her home in Reading, Berkshire, Yvonne told MailOnline: 'She would love to meet the Queen. That has always been her dream. I suppose if she really was Liz Truss today she would have made that dream come true.'

Asked if she would have voted for the new Prime Minister, she said: 'Probably.'

She added: 'When Liz talked about meatballs with the Swedish Prime Minister. it was funny as that's the kind of sense of humour she has.

'She no longer uses the surname Trussell as she has got married and has taken a different name,' she added.

Yvonne said her daughter, who works for Pepsi, had been subjected to some trolling online by people mistakenly assuming she was the Tory Leader.

She added: 'She has used that name on Twitter for years.

'But this (online attention) started yesterday morning and although it is funny, it's also not very nice because she is not the Prime Minister and not a politician.'

Fun-loving Ms Trussell, who is pictured on her social media celebrating Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's wedding in May 2018, appeared to be seeing the humorous side to the confusion.

And it's not the first time she has been confused for Liz Truss as back in 2013 she tweeted: 'Would like it to be known that I'm not and never will b a politician!!!!!'

Green MP for Brighton Caroline Lucas was another who yesterday tweeted @Liztruss saying she 'still doesn't get it'.

'@LizTruss still doesn't get it - Boris Johnson did *not* get Brexit done, his myriad mistakes over Covid cost countless lives, & he leaves having disgraced his office,' she hit out.   

'Meanwhile, she's campaigned as a right wing ideologue & will govern as such - which is a disaster for all of us.'
