Cold case investigators have launched an appeal to help identify the body of a woman washed ashore in Scotland 16 years ago.

The body of the mysterious woman was in November 2006 on a beach at Port Logan, in southwest Scotland.

 She is believed to have been in the water for up to six months before her body was found, indicating that she may have gone missing in the spring or summer of 2006. 

Missing person reports were checked but the 'Port Logan Woman' has still not been identified. 

Investigators now suspect she may have entered the water in the Dublin Bay area of Ireland, based on tidal flows, the weather and the location of where the body
