Australian wildlife authorities have issued urgent warnings after two massive crocodiles believed to be targeting people were captured, including a five-metre monster.

Both deadly reptiles were trapped in north Queensland after it was decided they posed an 'unacceptable threat to humans'.

A 3.2metre saltwater crocodile was spotted 'approaching fishers and boats' at the retirement town of Saunders Beach, north of Townsville.

Wildlife officers captured the animal in a baited trap placed in Althaus Creek and removed it.

The croc will be rehomed to a zoo or crocodile farm.

Wildlife Officers Dinouk, Corinna, Ash and Chris were photographed smiling beside the enormous beast, which had to be held down by nine ropes and straps.

The latest survey of saltwater or estuarine crocodiles in mid 2021 found there were over 30,000 mature crocs in Queensland.

Urgent croc warning

· Expect crocs in ALL North Queensland waterways even if no sign.

· Stand back from the water’s edge, or keep an object between you and the water at all times.

· Never leave food, fish scraps or bait near water, campsites or boat ramps.

· Never provoke or feed crocodiles.

· Report crocodile sightings through the QWildlife mobile app or by calling 1300 130 372.

· Be aware that crocodiles can be found in the ocean and freshwater.

· Be extra cautious at dawn, dusk and at night.

· Avoid using canoes and kayaks in croc country - the smaller the vessel, the greater the risk.

· Stay well away from crocodile traps.

· Camp at least 50 metres from the edge of the water.
