A learner driver who allegedly ploughed his car into a power pole leaving four passengers injured missed a court appearance because he was still in hospital, his lawyer has said.

Jordan Tye Maaka, 18, was due to face Sutherland Local Court on Monday in relation to a number of charges after he allegedly lost control and crashed his Honda Accord on Stoney Creek Road, Beverly Hills, in Sydney's south, about 6am on Friday.

An arrest warrant was issued after he failed to attend the hearing, with the matter rescheduled to be heard at the same court on Tuesday.

Maaka arrived late wearing a black hoodie, jeans, and white Nike sneakers, and flanked by several supporters.

Inside court, Maaka seemed unnerved as he sat in the front row sipping on a bottle of Coca-Cola.

Maaka's lawyer Imad El-Fawal told the court he missed the previous hearing because he was still receiving treatment at Liverpool hospital, where he was taken for minor injuries after the crash.

'We have instruction that my client was still in hospital,'  Mr El-Fawal said.

'The hospital sent notification through but it was not sent to the court.'

The Magistrate Donnelly accepted Mr El-Fawal's request for an adjournment and rescheduled the matter to reappear in court on October 5.

Outside court, a male member of Maaka's entourage lashed out at reporters, calling them names and threatening assault.

'F*** off you rats!' he said.

'Get out of my face or I'll punch you!'

Maaka has been charged with dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm, negligent driving causing grievous bodily harm, three counts of causing injury while in charge of motor vehicle and driving while suspended.

He was granted bail in Parramatta Local Court on Sunday, which heard the teenager allegedly got behind the wheel while his licence was suspended because of unpaid fines.

The court heard Maaka had suffered several injuries in the crash including a broken arm, however, his arm did not appear to be in a sling on Tuesday.

The four passengers - two girls aged 16 and two boys aged 15 and 16 - were treated at the scene before being taken to hospital, each in a stable condition. All have since been discharged.

Just hours after the crash, a friend of Maaka's shared photos on Facebook which were taken by a news outlet and showed the wreckage, alongside the caption: 's**t mayne' - a slang term for 'man'.

In the comments, another mate reassured Maaka, who is facing a raft of charges, that everything would be ok. 'You will be right big,' he said.

The incident has rattled members of the community still reeling from the deaths of five teenagers in an eerily similar crash in Buxton, southwest of Sydney, just ten days earlier.

Many have flocked online to express their disappointment that the Buxton tragedy did not appear to serve as a reminder to youths of the dangers and
