A 'distressed' woman was seen emerging from bushes holding her trousers, shortly before a man was spotted leaving the scene and grabbing a second woman by the wrist and neck.
The disturbing reports, which happened near the Rose Gardens, Portsmouth, shortly after midnight on Monday, have prompted police to issue a call for help in identifying the man in question, The Sun reports.
A statement from Hampshire Constabulary said: 'A distressed woman was seen leaving an area of bushes by the Rose Gardens close to the tennis courts, which back onto Canoe Lake.
'We are currently conducting a number of lines of enquiry in order to identify the man and the woman who was seen in distress.'
The woman was wearing a red top and holding what appeared to be a pair of trousers or leggings. She ran away in the direction of the golf course.
