GOP Rep. Andy Biggs said Wednesday he is 'dismayed' by Vice President Kamala Harris for visiting South Korea's border with North Korea before visiting the U.S.-Mexico border as a record number of migrants cross into the nation. 

'Going back to the border [for Harris] would be sitting in a restaurant in El Paso,' the Arizona congressman quipped in an interview with DailyMail.com. 

Biggs said that he had personally invited White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre to visit the southern border with him. 

'I've actually invited various Democrats - I've invited Ms. Jean-Pierre to come back down to the border with me because I go down so often.' 

'I'm not saying the Korean Peninsula is not important but I would say that our own border is really much more important right now. And that's a real crises that we have,' he added. 

Harris will visit Korea's demilitarized zone, DMZ, on Thursday in a bid to show Washington's commitment to the south's security after North Korea test fired a ballistic missile toward the sea. 

Harris has visited the border once since she was tasked with looking at the 'root causes' of migration early on in the administration – but went to the liberal city of El Paso at the northernmost part of the border in Texas, rather than to some deeper border communities.

The vice president also visited Guatemala in June 2021 where she met with regional leaders, including President Alejandro Giammattei, to talk about creating partnerships to improve conditions in the Northern Triangle to stop citizens
