A woman in Florida has gone viral after posting a video from her flooded living room in which she is floating on an inflatable paddling pool.

As high waters cause almost her entire living room to become submerged, she is able to remain afloat, sitting in the pool surrounded by floating bits of furniture.

The high flood waters can be seen sloshing up against the window of the ground floor room.

In the background the woman, whose first name is Beth, asks viewers if they have 'ever floated in a floaty pool in your own living room.'

Hurricane Ian sustained 150 mph winds when it struck the south west coast near Fort Myers, Florida.

There have been at least 21 deaths in Florida tied to Ian, which cost an estimated $47 billion in damages.

The hurricane is now barreling north. Charleston, where the National Guard have been activated, is being blasted by gale-force winds and torrential rain.

The hurricane is expected to move inland and into North Carolina on Saturday.

Ian has left behind it an enormous wake of destruction and inflicted staggering losses to Florida's home owners.

'I just want to say, if you've ever floated in a floaty pool in your own living room with your refrigerator, your door,' says Beth in despair.

Soon after posting the original video to TikTok, where it has been viewed 42 million times in just 24 hours, she  posted a follow up video featuring high water levels and palm trees flailing in the wind, captioning it: 'I'm alive!!!'

In a second follow up video the woman can be heard saying: 'If you can see me now, I'm alive, still floating in water. Some one needs to come help. Anyone?'

The Florida woman's precise location is unknown. She appears safe but still stuck in the flood waters.

'90% of Fort Myers Beach is pretty much gone': Official reveals everything aside from high-rise condos and brand new concrete homes is wiped out after boats were 'thrown like toys' by Hurricane Ian - as new photos show scale of destruction

The scale of destruction in southwest Florida continues to become apparent in the wake of Hurricane Ian, with new photos showing how the monster storm devastated coastal communities.

Fort Myers Beach, a town of about 5,500 on one of the barrier islands off Fort Myers, was '90 percent' destroyed in the storm, one official said.

'I made it about two-thirds down the island and I'd say 90 percent of the island is pretty much gone,' Fort Myers Beach Town Councilman Dan Allers told CNN

'Unless you have a high-rise condo or a newer concrete home that is built to the same standards today, your house is pretty much gone,' he added.

Walking amid the wreckage of destroyed marinas on Friday morning, the mayor of Fort Myers, the larger mainland city, marveled at the Category 4 storm's destructive power.

'Just look at the boats. These are some large boats. And they've been thrown around like they were toys,' Mayor Kevin Anderson told CNN. 'They were thrown around like they were nothing.'

Anderson said that some 200 residents had been rescued from their homes after the storm barreled through on Wednesday.

Amazingly, he said that there were no confirmed fatalities in Fort Myers itself, which was the epicenter of destruction as the storm made landfall.

A handful of deaths in the storm have been confirmed, but 48 hours after the hurricane first hit Florida, the hundreds of fatalities predicted by the sheriff of Lee County, which includes Fort Myers, have so far not materialized.
