Vice President Kamala Harris dodged a question about a statement she made saying that relief for communities affected by the devastating Hurricane Ian should be based on 'equity.'

Harris was asked by a reporter at the 51st annual Phoenix Awards, a dinner hosted by the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation Saturday evening in Washington, 'Vice President, can you clarify what you meant about equity for hurricane relief?'

The vice president, despite looking straight at the reporter, did not respond to the question and walked away with a security detail, according to Fox News

Christina Pushaw, leader of rapid response for Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, called Vice President Harris' statements false and added, 'Her rhetoric is causing undue panic and must be clarified. FEMA Individual Assistance is already available to all Floridians impacted by Hurricane Ian, regardless of race or background.'

Speaking at the Democratic National Committee's Women's Leadership Forum on Friday, Harris said that it was people of color and lower-income communities who are 'most impacted by these extreme [weather] conditions.'

The devastation inflicted on Florida came into focus a day after Ian struck as a monstrous Category 4 hurricane, one of the strongest storms ever to hit the U.S.

It flooded homes on both the state’s coasts, cut off the only road access to a barrier island, destroyed a historic waterfront pier, and knocked out electricity to 2.67 million Florida homes and businesses — nearly a
