The world's oldest living dog dies five months shy of her 23rd birthday: Fox terrier named Pebbles had 32 puppies, and switched to cat food as she grew older because it's higher in protein Pebbles, the world's oldest living dog, died on Monday at the age of 22, just five months short of her 23rd birthday  The fox terrier, who lived in South Carolina, became the record holder this May after her owners Julie and Bobby Gregory  They applied for the record after seeing the story of Toby Keith, a 21-year-old dog who held the record before Pebbles, and realizing she was older  Pebbles was born in Long Island, NY, in 2000 and moved to South Carolina in 2007 with her family and gave birth to 32 pups in her lifetime  She enjoyed country music, warm baths, and eating ribs on her birthday

The world's oldest living dog, who ate cat food and birthed 32 puppies, has died just months shy of her 23rd birthday. 

Pebbles, a 22-year-old Toy Fox Terrier, passed on Monday of 'natural causes' in her owner Bobby and Julie Gregory's South Carolina home. 

'She was a once in a lifetime companion, and it was our honor to have had the blessing to have had her as a pet, and family member,' her owner Julie Gregory said. 

'There was never anyone who met Pebbles that didn't love her.'
