Joe Smizaski, 60, contractor who waterproofs leaky skyscrapers today said he had pulled off the same maneuver 'a hundred times'. He insisted he is no secret agent or '007', but just a man doing his job. Incredible footage emerged this week showing Smizaski leaping from turret to turret on the roof of the West Street Building as he hunted for a water leak. The woman who called him yesterday told DailyMail.com of her astonishment as he casually climbed out the window and photographed the leaking roof. Joe Smizaski, the 60-year-old contractor who waterproofs skyscrapers said that he had pulled off the same maneuver 'a hundred times' 'I know what I'm doing because I've been doing this for 42 years,' Smizaski told NBC New York 'I know what I'm doing because I've been doing this for 42 years,' Smizaski told NBC New York. In this particular case he was making sure that a job had been done before a building inspector was due to arrive. 'I wouldn't do anything unsafe,' Smizaski said. 'I want to go home to my kids and my family. That's just the way I was brought up in the trade.' Smizaski also said that his leaps between windows were actually safer than they appeared in the viral video which was filmed from across the road. The dormers are wider than they seem from the perspective offered by the video and are spaced just 18 inches apart, he said. Making things even safer, were he to slip he would likely end up on the 22nd floor - just 9 feet below. Smizaski was recorded on the phone and taking pictures on top of the West Street Building in Manhattan on Tuesday. The heart-stopping footage showed him later leap from turret to turret before climbing back inside through a window 324ft above the road. Andrea, who said it was her place he was called to, told how he had arrived to help before casually undertaking the daring task. She said there was a leak in her apartment from several days of rain, and that the doorman sent the contractor to take a look. The worker entered her apartment and saw water puddled on the floor, telling her, 'You clearly have a leak. The problem is up there.' He pointed upward, then headed to the floor above hers. 'He went up to the 23rd floor and opened the window, crawled out the window and lowered himself down.' 'I thought the whole thing was so ridiculous,' she said.
