It's a week until the midterms and Republicans are seeing positive signs they'll be able to flip the House of Representatives and even the Senate, after Democrats showed they might be resistant to historical trends over the summer.

On Tuesday, The Wall Street Journal released a poll conducted last week that showed Republicans were two points ahead of Democrats, 46 percent to 44 percent, in the generic ballot.

In August, Democrats held a three point advantage.

The final Fox News Channel Power Rankings, also released Tuesday, predicted Republicans would take control of the House, but Democrats still had a pathway to maintain control of the Senate.

Overall, Fox saw shifts in 18 tight House races, two Senate races and three governors' races.

For a House majority, a party needs to control 218 seats.

Currently, the Democrats have a 220-seat majority and Republicans control 212 seats. Three seats are currently unoccuptied.

Fox predicted that Republicans would end up with 236 House seats to Democrats' 199.

However, the network also predicted a best-case and worst-case option for the parties.

If it's a 'red wave' election - which is possible with the historical precedent of the party in the White House facing a 'shellacking' during a president's first midterm, in this case the Democrats - Republicans could see a majority as high as 249 GOP seats.

If Democrats did enough to get out their coalition of voters, Fox predicted they'd still lose the House, but would retain 212 seats - just six from taking the majority again.

Republicans would have a slim majority of 223.

For Democrats to maintain control of the House, they'd have to win all 26 toss-up races and then another six where Republican candidates now seem likely to win.

Of those 26, four of those races
