Liz Cheney threw her support to Democratic Rep. Tim Ryan in the Ohio Senate race, one of the most closely fought races in the country. Cheney, who lost her own Wyoming House primary to a Trump-backing opponent, made her public endorsement in an interview with PBS host Judy Woodruff. ‘I would not vote for J.D. Vance,’ Cheney said when asked about the Ohio race, which has the potential to flip a seat to the Democrats. Asked if she would back Ryan, who has taken steps to distance himself from his national party, Cheney responded: ‘I would,’ in remarks at the City Club in Cleveland. Vance has seized a 2 per cent poll lead in the RealClearPolitics average, in a Republican-leaning state. Vance overcame some of his past comments bashing Trump to win the GOP primary, and has since gotten behind Trump’s claims of election fraud in 2020. Wyoming GOP Rep. Liz Cheney says she would vote for Democratic Rep. Tim Ryan in his race against J.D. Vance for a U.S. Senate seat from Ohio Cheney also offered praised House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s leadership chops, even while making a point to note their ideological differences. ‘I want to say a word about Speaker Pelosi. Everyone knows she is a liberal from San Francisco. I am a conservative from Wyoming, there are many, many issues, maybe most issues, on which we disagree. But I think that she is a tremendous leader,’ Cheney said. ‘I’ve watched her up close. She is a leader of historic consequence,’ the Republican added. She called GOP mockery of the hammer attack on Pelosi's husband, Paul, 'disgraceful.' 'The fact that while Paul Pelosi was in ICU, had been brutally attacked, had a skull fracture and numerous other injuries, that there were members of my party mocking him, that there were members of President Trump’s family mocking him, that’s not who we are in this country,' Cheney said, in reference to Donald Trump, Jr. 'That is disgraceful,' she said. Cheney has become a scathing critic of Trump’s on the House January 6th Committee, which has not ruled out making criminal referrals to the Justice Department. Rep. Tim Ryan (D-Ohio) narrowly trails Vance in the state Republican J.D. Vance has the backing of former President Donald Trump Cheney (R) (R-WY) attended a campaign event in support of the re-election bid of US Representative Elissa Slotkin (L) (D-MI) in Lansing, Michigan, on Tuesday The move comes as Cheney, who has not ruled out a run for the White House in 2024, endorsed Michigan Democratic House Rep. Elissa Slotkin in her race against Republican Tom Barrett. Barrett has called out Cheney for having the ‘audacity’ to back his opponent. ‘While Elissa and I have our policy disagreements, at a time when our nation is facing threats at home and abroad, we need serious, responsible, substantive members like Elissa in Congress,’ Cheney said of Slotkin, a former CIA analyst in Democratic and Republican administrations. Cheney has called for moving beyond partisan politics ‘to ensure the survival of our republic.’ Share or comment on this article: All rights reserved for this news site (dailymail) and under his responsibility
