A Sydney cafe chain has been found guilty of exploiting eight 'interns' and paying the university students from Taiwan just $6-an-hour.  

In total, 85 Degrees Coffee Australia Pty Ltd underpaid the workers $430,000 in under a year.  

The so-called interns had made the journey to Sydney through a deal arranged by a company related to the cafe chain.

They were made to work up to 70 hours a week, earning between $1650 and $1750 a month from July 2016 to June 2017. That equates to less than $6 an hour.

The chain was fined $475,000 by the Federal Court for exploiting the students, who had come from Taipei City University of Science and Technology in Taiwan.
