The son of a multimillionaire 'car boot king' who was left with nothing when his father died is fighting his stepmother in the High Court for a share of the family's £5million fortune after three-year 'peace talks' broke down.

Richard Scott ran the UK's second biggest boot fair from his 'vast' Cheshire farm, where ITV's Car Boot Challenge was filmed.

His eldest son Adam Scott, 59, says he worked on the farm from the age of nine, and was promised it would be his one day.

But after Richard Scott remarried in 2016 to Jennifer Scott - a woman 28 years his junior - he wrote his son out of any share of his estate. Instead, he left Mrs Scott in control of his millions.

It means that when 81-year-old Richard died of cancer in 2018, Adam was left without a penny.

Mrs Scott, who is two years younger than Adam, is now farming his land as her late husband's executor. Her two sons, Gordon and William Redgrave-Scott, and Adam's sister, Rebecca Horley, also stand to benefit under Richard's last will, London's High Court heard.

He insists that as well as owing him for sacrificing his career for the farm, Richard was too mentally frail to understand the effect of the last two wills he made in 2016, cutting Adam out.

The dispute was originally fixed for trial in February 2020, but never got off the ground due to failed attempts at mediation.

'A number of issues needed to be resolved before a concluded settlement agreement could be entered into,' explained Adam's barrister, Paul Burton, at a pre-trial hearing last week, adding: 'Ultimately it has not been possible to resolve those issues'.

As well as clashing with his stepmother over his father's last will, Adam - who himself farms nearby - is also suing her and her son, Gordon Redgrave-Scott, for alleged trespass on his land, and to 'prevent interference with his farming activities'.

The court heard Richard and Jennifer got married in early 2016, although they had already been partners for over 20 years, with Richard's
