Former President Donald Trump has demanded Americans pay his legal fees for his suit against the Congressional committee investigating his the January 6 attacks.

Delivered by the ex-commander in chief on Monday, the brazen declaration came in the form of a new filing that seeks to block a committee subpoena requiring him to testify as to his role in the unrest next week.

Trump, who is the midst of several legal battles at present, was scheduled to be deposed by the committee on Monday, following multiple attempts from to delay his testimony.

Trump’s lawyers administered a last-ditch effort Friday night to avoid testifying, with the 42-page lawsuit filed in Palm Beach court.

The suit contends that, while former presidents have agreed to provide testimony when prompted by congressional subpoenas in the past, none 'has ever been compelled to do so,' and that Trump, 76, therefore should be absolved from such scrutiny.

It's been reported the prospective GOP nominee is days away from announcing his third bid for presidency - and the committee recently said it cannot pay the former president’s legal bills if he announces a run for the White House in 2024.

The suit subsequently demands that taxpayers, in the committee' stead, foot the bill for any subpoena-related costs.

Congress has until December to come to an agreement over the funding issue.

The committee voted to subpoena Trump during its final televised hearing before the midterm elections and formally did so last month, demanding testimony from the former president.

Committee members allege Trump 'personally orchestrated' a multi-part effort to overturn the results of the 2020 election.

They said Trump had to testify, either at the Capitol or by videoconference, 'beginning on or about' November 14 and continuing for multiple days if necessary.

The letter also outlined a sweeping request for documents, including personal communications between Trump and members of Congress as well as extremist groups.
