Australians have been left divided over whether a man alleged to have smashed the windscreen of a silver hatchback sporting a Russian flag was justified.

The silver hatchback was parked in Erskineville, in Sydney's inner suburbs, when a man allegedly began jumping on the windscreen late on Saturday night after spotting the Russian flag sticker on the side of the vehicle.

A photo of the vandalised vehicle was posted to a Sydney Reddit thread on Monday, with one local immediately recognising the car.

'I saw this happen live. I was wondering what the f*** was going on. It happened on Saturday,' they commented.

'Some dude jumped on the car and windshield and kicked the shit out of it, couldn't see the Russian paraphernalia from where my mates were.'
