Illinois high school physical education teacher's job hangs in the balance after he was suspended for refusing to let transgender boy use the boys' locker room - as dozens of parents call on board to 'do the right thing' Cody Hiller, a physical education teacher in Illinois, was suspended last month after he refused to let a transgender student change in the boys' locker room The school board then voted to give Hiller a remedial warning, clearing the way for him to return to work, but the school said they have to respect the law Illinois law states it is a civil rights violation to 'deny or refuse to another the full and equal enjoyment of the facilities' based on gender identity Many parents and locals asked the board not to fire Hiller at a meeting, pleading that they 'do the right thing' 'You need to stand up for good laws and laws that mean something to everyone' said one man at the meeting

Dozens of parents turned out to an Illinois schoolboard meeting to defend a teacher who was previously suspended for denying a transgender student to change inside a boys' locker room, which has put his employment in jeopardy.

Cody Hiller, a married father-of-six and physical education teacher at West Frankfort High School, was placed on administrative leave last month.

Hiller said when the school received new students, one transgender boy told school administrators they planned on using the boys' locker room.

Hiller then went to the administration and said he 'wouldn't allow that to happen,' causing him to be placed on administrative leave. 

'It's not safe for anybody,' Hiller told Sheronna Bishop . 'This is not against this particular student, I feel for this student and I do believe there needs to be protections for that student. It's just not in the boys' locker room.'

Hiller said he is the only person to speak out because others are 'afraid
