A 31-year-old man has been charged with the murders of a mother and her two children following a horrific house fire.

Fatoumatta Hydara, 28, was taken to hospital following the blaze at her home in Clifton, Nottingham but died from her injuries two days later. Her children Naeemah Drammeh, one, and Fatimah Drammeh, three, were also tragically killed following a blaze at their home in Fairisle Close on 20 November 2022.

A joint fire and police investigation concluded the fire was started deliberately.

Today, detectives charged Jamie Barrow, of Fairisle Close, Clifton, with three counts of murder.

The 31-year-old has been remanded into custody and will appear at Nottingham Magistrates' Court tomorrow.

Assistant Chief Constable Rob Griffin, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: 'Our thoughts remain with the family at this incredibly painful time, as well as the communities that have been affected by this most tragic of incidents. The grief this family has been put through is incomprehensible.

'Large teams of detectives have been working relentlessly alongside specialist search units and forensic experts to understand the full circumstances behind this deliberate fire.

'Following those inquiries, we have charged a suspect with three counts of murder. The family are aware of this development and I would like to sincerely thank them for their patience and understanding as we do everything we possibly can to gain justice for Fatoumatta, Fatimah and Naeemah.'

An arson attack that killed a 28-year-old mother and her two daughters was not a race hate incident, police said yesterday- as her heartbroken husband paid tribute to his 'beautiful' family.

Police said a triple murder investigation is being conducted into the suspected arson case, as a man continues to be questioned by police.

Ms Hydara's husband, Aboubacarr Drammeh, 40, was away in America at the time and rushed back as soon as he heard the devastating news his family had been killed.

Remembering his wife and children today, Mr Drammeh said: 'It is with great sadness that we have lost Fatoumatta and our two daughters in such a tragic way.

'Fatoumatta had lived a short but a very beautiful and fulfilling life. A former voluntary worker, Fatoumatta was a very happy, bubbly woman who wouldn't have the heart to hurt a fly. It is therefore inconceivable to think who might have committed this cruel crime against my family.

'We thank the Ahmadi Muslim community in Nottinghamshire, the Gambian community, the local neighbours and all those well-wishers for their continuous support in this difficult time.

'I and my in-laws are left without any daughters, grandchildren and nieces. I will deeply miss my family.'

Speaking outside the burned out home, Neighbourhood Inspector Karl Thomas said: 'We do not believe at this stage that this is a racist and hate incident but we are keeping an open mind.'

He also declined to say if the suspect was known to the family, adding: 'We cannot comment on that and we cannot compromise the investigation because of the magnitude of it.

'We are treating it as an isolated incident and we are engaging with the community to offer reassurance.'

Heartwrenching footage was released by police yesterday shows the two girls happily playing and giggling together before the blaze.

A police and fire investigation concluded the fire was started deliberately and Nottinghamshire Police has launched a triple murder investigation.
