Frustrated England fans have taken to social media to blame ITV for the Three Lions being nullified by the USA in their second World Cup match of the tournament.

Despite being the favourites to win against their American rivals they were unable to succeed.

Disappointed fans have been quick to point the finger about who blame for tonight's result, claiming it is a result of the phenomenon dubbed the 'curse of ITV'.

People have noticed that England does not get as many wins when their games are broadcasted on ITV compared with the BBC.

One user begged: 'The curse of ITV continues. Could you please let BBC show England matches from now on?'

Another claimed: 'ITV curse strikes again. In major tournaments since 1998. BBC: W11 D1 L3. ITV: W2 D6 L5.'

 The term 'curse of ITV' has been flung around the since 1998 and in the past 10 years of World Cups and Euros alone, England has won only a few matched when ITV broadcast the game, with the majority being draws or losses.

While many chose to blame the superstition, others called for manager Gareth Southgate to go questioning if a manager 'can be sacked mid-tournament?'

One said criticised the England manager for using 'bizarre tactics' throughout the game.

Speaking after the game Southgate admitted: 'I knew it would be difficult for us. We didn't have quite have that same zip.
