This is the dramatic moment that shows the missing Carnival Cruise passenger being hoisted and rescued from the Gulf of Mexico by the Coast Guard after falling out of the luxury vessel and being stuck in the water for 15 hours.

The unidentified man, 28, was found alive and in stable conditions in the Gulf of Mexico after falling overboard the Carnival Valor cruise ship following a night of drinking on November 24 and could have been in the water for up to 21.5 hours.

While the video is a bit grey, the Coast Guard's clip of the rescue shows the man clearly floating and appearing to wave at the chopper.

A Bulk carrier, known as the Crinis, was able to find the man and contacted the Coast Guard. He was finally rescued about 20 miles south of Southwest Pass, Louisiana at around 8:25 p.m.

He was unable to tell officers how he fell overboard but was able to confirm it had been him and gave them his name. His identity has not been publicly released.

Lieutenant Seth Gross, of the USCG New Orleans branch, said they found the man suffering from hypothermia, shock, and dehydration.

Ryan Graves, a petty officer with the branch, added: 'This is an exceptionally rare case. It is really nothing short of a Thanksgiving miracle to be able to pick somebody up after that long in the water without any sort of flotation device.'

The man was airlifted to New Orleans and is being treated at the hospital.

He was last seen at the Carnival Valor's bar with his sister before he left to use the restroom at around 11pm on Wednesday and did not return. His sister waited until noon the next day to report him missing, according to KPLC 7.

The ship was thoroughly searched, but he was nowhere to be found. Crews called the Coast Guard around 2.30pm.

'We have not been able to confirm when he entered the water, so we're under the assumption [that] any point from Wednesday on, he could have entered the waterway,' Gross told CNN

'He realistically could have been in the water for 15+ hours before we were able to successfully rescue him.'

The ship had backtracked toward New Orleans to support
