The 48-year-old, who wanted to remain anonymous, said he 'knew something bad had happened'. He told LeicestershireLive: 'We heard it really loud in the morning. It sounded more like an explosion than a bang. My neighbours said the same thing. It didn't sound like a car had hit another car, you could tell from the sound it made that it wasn't normal — it echoed. 'We thought a car had hit a house or something from the sound of it. It was like a bomb had gone off it was so loud. We jumped out of bed — we were quite shocked,' he added. A second resident, who has lived in the area for 40 years, said the bend in the road where the incident happened was 'notorious' for collisions. The man, who also did not want to be named, said: 'It can be bad. It depends on how fast you're going, but that bend can be deceptive.' He added: 'The incident did shock me because as far as I've been here, nobody has actually died, it's always been a minor incident.'
