The bus was stolen by 34-year-old Rickey Rene Dancy at around 8pm on the Friday of Thanksgiving weekend. There were no passengers on the bus when it was stolen but the driver was assaulted and an ambulance was called to tend to his non-life-threatening injuries, police said. The hijacking occurred in the city's Mission District and Dancy was able to drive the Muni bus nearly two miles to 19th Street and Guerrero Street. After 'coming to rest' Dancy got out of the bus and tried to run away but was chased and arrested by police, who found him to be under the influence of drugs. He was booked into the San Francisco county jail where he has been charged with 17 counts including assault with a deadly weapon that is not a firearm and operating a bicycle without breaks - its not clear when that crime is alleged to have occurred. The bus eventually 'came to a halt', police said, and remained in the middle of the road while Dancy was brought into custody and the scene was investigated. No court date has been set for Dancy and as of Sunday afternoon no price had been set for his bail. Muni is the public transit system in San Francisco and is comprised of both buses and light rail cars. According to San Francisco county data, crime in on the Muni has been dropping over the last decade. There were around 10 Muni-related crimes per 100,000 vehicle miles in 2014 that has been down to around two for the past couple of years. Nonetheless, overall crime in San Francisco is up from last year. Although homicides are down, assaults, robberies and rape are all up according to data from San Francisco Police Department data from late October.
