Kathy Stark watched her husband of 35 years, Bobby Ray Stark, go up in flames last Thursday after his blood pressure dropped severely low following complaints about chest pain. A team of doctors and nurses pushed in a 'crash cart' and attached defibrillator paddles to his chest to 'shock his heart back in sinus rhythm,' according to a GoFundMe set up by his daughter. Instead of shocking his heart back to a regular rhythm, however, the pads sparked from a faulty wire and created a 'fireball,' which burned Bobby's chest, face, head, hands, throat, and lungs. Kathy witnessed the flames spreading across her husband's body, telling KSN in tears: 'They started the [defibrillator] paddles, and it just blew up everything. I saw that, and I just burst out. 'I said: "He’s on fire, put him out."' He was then transferred to Skyline Hospital's burn unit, where he died later that day. Kathy Stark watched her husband of 35 years go up in flames last Thursday when his blood pressure dropped severely low after a nurse tried to adjust him following complaints about chest pain Bobby, who has been bedridden for the last seven years after suffering from 'several strokes' that left him paralyzed, had recently had part of his foot amputated November 17 before being transferred to TriStar Centennial Medical Center Moments after being adjusted, a team of doctors and nurses pushed in a 'crash cart' and attached defibrillator paddles to his chest to 'shock his heart back in sinus rhythm,' but instead a faulty wire exploded and burned his chest, face, head, hands, throat, and lungs Bobby, who has been bedridden for the last seven years after suffering from 'several strokes' that left him paralyzed, had recently had part of his foot amputated November 17 before being transferred to TriStar Centennial Medical Center. The hospital told Kathy that 'this has never happened before.' Bobby's daughter Joyce Feakes - whom Kathy is now staying with - called the hospital for answers and the pair are now demanding that this does not happen again. 'They need to make sure that that doesn’t happen to somebody else, so somebody else doesn’t lose their husband, their best friend, their dad. And even worse, we lost him on Thanksgiving,' she told KSN. The hospital told KSN in a statement that it 'extends our deepest sympathies to this family' and that it is 'reviewing the care provided to the patient and the functionality of the equipment.' 'The death of a loved one is always very difficult, and our hearts go out to this family,' the hospital said. Kathy has been living off Bobby's social security for the last seven years, as she has been his sole caretaker. The widow remembers when she first met her husband in a Moose Lodge in California all those years ago. 'I couldn't stop looking at him, he was so good-looking,' she told KSN. The pair (pictured on their wedding day) were married for 35 years and Kathy still remembers the day they met at a Moose Lodge in California, where she couldn't take her eyes off him because he was 'so good-looking' In a similar case, a Texas grandmother who was battling COVID-19 died in June 2021 after being burned by defibrillator paddles that had burst into flames. Denise Jill Asaro, 69, was being treated at HCA Houston Healthcare in Kingwood when she experienced a medical emergency requiring resuscitation. The defibrillator being used to revive the patient caught fire for an unknown reason. Investigators have speculated that the defibrillator may have ignited an oxygen tank, causing the small explosion. She was burned so badly she had to have a closed casket funeral.
