A 'blind drunk' woman smashed a glass into her friend's face after downing shots, cider and gin during an all-day New Year's Day drinking session.

Ella Shears, 20, left her 'best friend' Masie Phillips with scars to her face following the drunken attack in a club in Bridgend after being out drinking for 10 hours.

Shears was the 'drunkest she had ever been' after downing drinks with her friends to see in the New Year, Cardiff Crown Court heard.

She was ordered to pay £3,000 in compensation to her friend but avoided jail after admitting she remembered nothing of the attack.

Prosecutor Gareth James said Shears attacked 21-year-old Miss Phillips inside the Vetz Snooker Club in Pontycymer and going back to get it.

They had gone back to the club to pick up Shears' coat that she had left inside. Shears became upset after Miss Phillips suggested they wait outside the club's corridor.

The court heard Miss Phillips then tried to grab Shears but when she did, so she was pushed forcibly up against a wall.

Miss Phillips pushed back but Shears retaliated by swinging the glass at her and smashing it into her face leaving her bleeding.
