Republican lawmakers are accusing newly-minted House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries of being an 'election denier' over a 2018 social media post calling the 2016 election 'illegitimate.'
Senate GOP Leader Mitch McConnell was the latest legislator to bring up Jeffries' past criticism of Donald Trump's victory in remarks on the House floor on Thursday.
McConnell also lashed out at the New York congressman for 'reckless attacks' against conservative Supreme Court justices amid Democratic outrage over its overturning of Roe v. Wade.
Jeffries was elected via unanimous vote to succeed Speaker Nancy Pelosi, House Democrats' longtime party leader, on Wednesday.
