Republicans warn January 6 committee they'll investigate its work trends now

House Republicans are preparing to put the House January 6 Committee, which probed the Trump administration's conduct before and during the Capitol riot, under the microscope.
House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, who is seeking to become the next House speaker, has written committee chair Rep. Bennie Thompson of Mississippi demanding his panel preserve records and transcripts.
McCarthy – whose own contacts with former President Donald Trump became a subject of the panel's inquiry – attacked its work, saying it had spent 'millions of taxpayer dollars.'
He bluntly told Thompson that on January 3, his work 'will come to an end.'
The blast comes as the January 6 panel, created by a vote of the Democratic-controlled majority after the violent attack on the Capitol, hurries to produce a lengthy report before it is dissolved.
'You have spent a year and a half and millions of taxpayers' dollars conducting this investigation. It is imperative that all information collected be preserved not just for institutional prerogatives but for transparency to the American people,' McCarthy wrote Thompson.
