Whether it's the hunt for a coffee machine, latest gadget or toy for the little ones, it seems that for more than a third of Brits, the yuletide shopping also brings with it some anxiety. A new study by mobile phone network EE, found 37 per cent of UK shoppers are worried about losing money to fraudsters during Christmas, Boxing Day and the January sales. The research, which asked 2,017 people, highlighted that nearly a quarter have purchased items from online retailers they've never used or heard of in the past, with almost 1 in 3 admitting having previously put aside their usual caution to secure a good deal over the period. The study found 37 per cent of UK shoppers are worried about losing money to fraudsters during Christmas - with a quarter of them purchasing goods from websites they don't know In response to their customers' fears, EE has launched a new cyber security application powered by Norton to provide advanced online security and greater peace of mind for its users. The network has unveiled new monthly subscription packages around home and cyber security as the company said it wanted to make digital security more accessible to the public. The service provides customers with dark web monitoring including email addresses, bank account numbers, credit card numbers, phone numbers, driver's licence number and notifies them should it be found. It also provides social media monitoring, which analyses customers' accounts and notifies them of suspicious activity, like changes to their account settings, unusual logins and risky links in their posts. The service also provides real time protection against ransomware, viruses, spyware, malware, and other online threats - and helps block unauthorised traffic.
