New York state Attorney General Letitia James' office is 'looking into' Republican Congressman-elect George Santos after it was reported that he lied about key details of his background and heritage, it was confirmed to DailyMail.com on Thursday.
A bombshell report in the New York Times suggested Santos lied about working at Citigroup and Goldman Sachs, and that the two universities he said he attended - New York University and CUNY Baruch College - had no record of him. It also did not find evidence of his supposed nonprofit dog rescue.
A subsequent report from Jewish Insider suggests he was misleading about his grandparents being Holocaust survivors
And on Thursday, DailyMail.com published a photo of the woman who self-proclaimed 'openly-gay' Santos was married to until just weeks before he announced his first campaign for Congress in 2020. Details about his ex-wife were first revealed by the Daily Beast.
James' office told DailyMail.com it was reviewing 'a number of issues' regarding Santos as of Thursday afternoon.
It did not specify whether the New York Times story triggered the review nor did it say whether a full investigation was being launched.
DailyMail.com reached out to Santos' lawyer, Joe Murray, for comment.
