A young woman had to be rescued from a rip by lifeguards in dramatic scenes after she went for an ill-advised ocean swim to welcome in 2023 at Surfer's Paradise.
The woman, still wearing her black party dress and sneakers, ventured into the Gold Coast surf amid New Year's Eve celebrations and began to struggle after getting caught in a rip.
Lucky for her, lifeguards were on duty and spotted her in distress with one paddling out to pluck her from the swirling currents.
