President Joe Biden on Wednesday accompanied Jill Biden to Walter Reed hospital to be with the first lady when she has outpatient surgery to remove a small lesion above her right eye, known as Mohs surgery.

Dr. Kevin O'Connor, Physician to the President, said it was found during a 'routine skin cancer screening,' according to a memo released by the East Wing on January 4th.

O'Connor said it was being removed and examined 'in an abundance of caution.'

Jill Biden, 71, is the oldest first lady in modern American history.

Mohs Surgery is an outpatient procedure where thin layers of skin are cut away to look for signs of skin cancer.

Her office announced last week she would undergo the procedure at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland.

President Biden accompanied her at two other outpatient surgical appointments.

In April 2021, she had a 'common medical procedure' at an outpatient center near the George Washington University campus.

And, in July 2021, she traveled to Walter Reed to have debris removed from her foot after she stepped on an object while walking on a beach in Hawaii.

Wednesday's procedure was done after the Bidens returned from a three-day trip to Mexico where they met with their Mexican and Canadian counterparts as part of the 'Three Amigos' summit.

The first lady had her own schedule during the trip with a focus on women's empowerment and cultural issues.

She toured the renowned Templo Mayor Museum Tuesday afternoon with her counterparts Dr. Beatriz Gutiérrez Müller of Mexico and Sophie Grégoire Trudeau of Canada.

And, on Monday, she touted  the 'integrity' of the NFL while she watched young children play flag football in Mexico, praising the league as it deals with the fallout from Damar Hamlin's injury and its response to it.

She also gave a shoutout to her beloved Philadelphia Eagles, who beat the New York Giants in Sunday night's playoff game.

'I'm a big supporter of the NFL. Actually on the plane here yesterday, I was watching the Eagles beat the Giants,' she said.

She praised the NFL for 'teaching our children the values of respect and integrity.'
