Democratic Sen. Time Kaine will seek re-election in 2024, he announced Friday, after 'grappling with what to do' over the next election.
The 64-year-old Virginia Democrat and 2016 vice presidential nominee announced his political future at a press conference in the state capital of Richmond, telling reporters he's 'very happy' he's decided to run again.
The senator said there is still more left for him to accomplish. 'I'm a servant. I love Virginia. I'm proud of what I've done. I've got a whole lot more I want do.'
He added: 'Democracies are under assault by dictators at home and abroad.'
Kaine acknowledged that there was a 'significant' chance Republicans could take back the upper chamber come 2024.
