A pensioner who was allegedly murdered during a mobility scooter robbery outside Tesco was 'living in sheltered accommodation blighted by drugs gangs and prostitutes,' a neighbour has claimed.

Neil Shadwick, 63, was found unresponsive and without his scooter in the supermarket car park in Stroud, Gloucestershire, shortly before 6am on Sunday.

The pensioner, who battled Parkinson's disease, was rushed to Gloucestershire Royal Hospital by paramedics, but died later the same day.

Now, his neighbour claims that drugs gangs and prostitutes had been targeting adults in the community.

Mental health worker Rob Marsh, 60, told The Times that prostitutes followed men from the Tesco Express and attempted to make conversation. He also claimed a drugs gang was 'cuckooing' an alleged 'vulnerable adult' by taking of their house as a drug dealing base.

Mr Marsh's claims come as police have issued an appeal for more information into the attack.

Security camera video showed a man believed to be Mr Shadwick driving up to a cashpoint with a woman in a long grey coat on the back of his scooter.

The man gingerly climbed off the scooter before withdrawing money, while the woman stood around impatiently. The pair then clambered back on the scooter and drove away.

The victim was found less than a mile away from the cashpoint on Sunday morning, while the scooter was found abandoned by a member of the public on Bisley Old Road over a mile away.

Police believe he was the subject of a robbery and have appealed for information from anyone who saw the mobility scooter being used in the Paganhill area of the town between around 2am and 4am on Sunday.
