After months of staying silent in the face of racist verbal attacks from former President Donald Trump, ex-Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao hit back at her old boss on Wednesday.
The former Trump Cabinet official told Politico that the ex-president 'doesn't understand' the struggles faced by Asian Americans - which she herself said she had to overcome.
'When I was young, some people deliberately misspelled or mispronounced my name,' she began the statement.
Chao has become a target of Trump's tirades against her husband, Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell - his chief political rival in the GOP.
'Asian Americans have worked hard to change that experience for the next generation,' she said.
