A school board member who is facing calls to resign for tweeting 'whiteness is evil' has revealed how her ex-husband of 16 years opened her eyes to how 'whiteness harms and destroys.'

Kesha Hamilton, 41, from Michigan, hit headlines last week after writing a series of inflammatory tweets in which she claimed Caucasian people were more dangerous than 'wild animals.'

The tweets have still not been deleted from her public profile and Hamilton told DailyMail.com she will not 'apologize for something which is true.'

Hamilton said she was 'surprised' by the media attention around the tweets after some parents demanded she resign.

The 41-year-old also opened up about how her views on whiteness were informed by her marriage to a white man whom she met at church as a teenager but divorced about six years ago.

When asked if the divorce was amicable, she declined to comment.

'My ex-husband opened my eyes to how whiteness harms and destroys,' she told DailyMail.com

'We met in the same church as teenagers and everybody agreed it was a good match. We married when I was 20.

'It gave me a front row seat to how whiteness works and I wasn't prepared for how different our value systems were.'
