Elon Musk has had a surprise meeting with the Republican and Democrat House leaders to discuss the future of Twitter.
Musk said he had met with Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries to discuss 'ensuring that Twitter is fair to both parties'.
But McCarthy was cryptic about his meeting with Musk and told Bloomberg: 'He came to wish me a happy birthday.' McCarthy, who turned 58 on Thursday, added: 'We've been friends for years.'
And an aide to Jeffries told CNN there was no pre-planned meeting with Musk scheduled.

'Jeffries was meeting with McCarthy in the Speaker's office and, as it was ending, Musk came in,' the aide said. 'They didn't have a meeting. They met. It was mostly jus an introduction.'
It comes as Twitter is facing a series of lawsuits over unpaid rent at the company's headquarters in San Francisco and its British offices - in the latest sign that Musk's extreme cost-cutting strategy includes simply not paying bills.
Musk's $44billion takeover of Twitter last October has been mired in controversy after the entrepreneur sacked thousands of staff without notice.
