A man is facing life behind bars after he battered his elderly father to death with a bottle of Bollinger in a drunken rage.

Deekan Singh Vig was found guilty of murdering father Arjan Singh, 86, at the family home in Southgate, north London, on October 30, 2021 after he had consumed half a bottle of whisky.

The Old Bailey previously heard that officers found Mr Vig on the floor of his son's bedroom with his 'head caved in' as his son stood over him naked and surrounded by around 100 bottles of Champagne, including blood stained bottles of Veuve Cliquot and Bollinger.

The family moved to the UK from Uganda when Vig was five years old. Mr Vig was a qualified accountant and his mother, a zoologist, worked as a teacher. Vig helped his father to run the family business.

The court had heard that Vig began drinking alcohol during lockdown.

On the evening of Mr Vig's death, Vig's parents were at home when they heard vomiting noises coming from his room. He told her he had consumed half a bottle of whisky. He later admitted to police that he had drunk 500mls of Whisky.

The court was told that the last thing Mrs Vig saw was her husband comforting their son. Giving evidence, Vig told the court a fight
