Madison Brooks died from 'multiple traumatic injuries' when she was hit by a car after allegedly being raped around 3:00 am on January 15. She had just been dropped off by four men who she met at a bar. In an interview with Baton Rouge-based investigative reporter Kiran Chawla, the 12-year-old victim described the assault in horrifying detail. The now-teenage victim said that during a pool party, her friend asked for her help sneaking a boy into her room. She did so by using a towel to cover a Ring camera. When the other boy entered the home, Washington also barged his way in, the victim alleges. After resisting and saying 'no' multiple times, the victim said that Washington proceeded to sexually assault her for an hour. She said that when he was finished, 'He got up and told me to "go check myself."' The victim went on to say that she didn't say anything about the attack until a year later. In 2021, she said that she described the rape in her notebook, left it on her bed and then went to school. While at school, she texted her mother to tell her to go and read what was on her bed. Subsequently her mother took her to the police to make a formal complaint. She said, 'I feel like after the police was told, they just kind of swept it away and never kept up with it. I just felt like she was never going to get justice.' It was only in the aftermath of Washington's arrest in relation to the Madison Brooks case that a witness to the 2020 rape came forward, according to Chawla.
