Customers slam Ed Sheeran's pub over £19-a-time dishes that 'taste like second rate microwave meals' cooked in kitchen that 'looks like roadside catering van' By Jamie Phillips For Mailonline Published: 11:11 GMT, 1 February 2023 | Updated: 13:32 GMT, 1 February 2023 38 Viewcomments Customers at Ed Sheeran's London pub have slammed its £19 dishes they claim 'taste like second rate microwave meals' and that look as if they have been cooked in 'a roadside catering van'. The hugely successful singer, 31, opened the upmarket Bertie Blossoms in Portobello Road, West London, in September 2019. The restaurant, said to be named in honour of his wife Cherry Seaborn, changes its menu frequently but has been known to serve steak, pasta dishes and chocolate and prune brownies among its £19 plates. Previous menus list just nine items on the entire list, with the restaurant's website saying that its food is 'freshly prepared'. Carol Lewis-Burling said: 'What a disappointment, the food options were limited. Which wouldn’t have been a problem if the quality wasn’t so poor.' She added: 'You could see through to the kitchen. Which looked more like a roadside catering van. Food tasted similar. 'Everything was manufactured and if it couldn’t be deep fried it was over boiled or fried. Looked like a good clean wouldn’t hurt either. 'Expensive for what tasted like a second rate microwave meal and both the server and chef looked like a good wash wouldn’t hurt them either.' Another diner said: 'We were all very excited to try Bertie Blossoms but sadly were let down by the entire food menu. 'The red wine was delightful but sadly everything else was flavourless. Lovely staff but the food was not worth a visit!' Another fan - called Abie - also claimed her meal tasted as though it had been 'shoved in the microwave'. A fourth diner said they were 'let down by the entire food menu'. David Stewart said: “Gorgeous food and such a good and welcoming atmosphere. “I want to go back every day.” A second added: 'Five of us visited Bertie Blossoms for a catch up and we had the most amazing spread of small plates. I think we ordered top-ups of plates maybe 5 times. 'We must’ve ordered one of everything by the end of the night. Every single thing was delicious. 'Gorgeous food and such a good and welcoming atmosphere. I want to go back every day.' It comes after Sheeran was forced to close the restaurant just six months after its opening following the outbreak of Covid in March 2020. The singer refused to furlough his ten staff at the restaurant, instead paying their wages out of his own pocket. Bertie Blossoms has been contacted for comment.
