Mario Kart ride at Universal Studios slammed for being 'fatphobic' trends now

Super Nintendo World at Universal Studios Hollywood has not even opened to the public and is already being slammed for being 'blatantly fatphobic.'

The theme park's latest attraction, a real-life version of the popular Mario Kart game, has a waist restriction of 40 inches, which is leading many on social media to criticize ride makers for not being inclusive enough.

'Still mad about that 40-inch waistline requirement for the Mario Kart ride. It's just blatantly fatphobic, there's nothing about it that can't accommodate a bigger human,' said one person on Twitter

According to data compiled by Healthline, the waistline requirement is not far off at all from the average waistline for Americans.

Healthline found that the average woman in the U.S. has a waistline of 38.7 inches while men are over the Mario Kart limit at 40.2 inches.

On the whole, the new portion of the theme park - found on the park's lower lot- has arrived to acclaim from gamers and reviewers who were invited to early previews.

Super Nintendo World does not officially open to the public until February 17.

But while the attraction has received heavy praise from those who have gotten to check it out, it's also been criticized for not being as inclusive as it could be.

'This ride employs safety restraints which may restrict certain guests from riding due to body shape and size,' an advisory posted by the park reads.

‘Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge’ invites visitors to navigate Mario Kart-themed tracks while wearing augmented reality goggles.

It's billed as 'one of the most complex rides ever built within the entertainment industry.'

The message, shared to social media, goes on to say that guests should expect to potentially be unable to ride based on their waistlines.

'Guests whose waistline is at least 40" or greater may not be accommodated on the ride and are strongly encouraged to try the test seat
