GOP undercuts Biden State of the Union with 'influence peddling' probe trends now

House Republicans will target their investigatory machinery at Joe Biden's family just hours after the president delivers his State of the Union speech before a joint meeting of Congress next week.
The hearing, which will focus on Twitter suppression of the Hunter Biden laptop story, is part of a wide-ranging probe that House Oversight panel chair Rep. James Comer has promised to probe alleged Biden family 'influence peddling.'
The investigation comes just as Biden tries to rally the nation with an applause-designed speech on prime time TV – hoping to sell his agenda in advance of a reelection campaign the White House says he intends to run. The hearing will get underway at a time when cable networks are usually rehashing the speech and giving it additional airtime.
It will involve testimony by top Twitter executives forced out by company head Elon Musk, and relates to explosive and sometimes tawdry allegations linked to the infamous laptop, which a Wilmington computer repair shop owner says he gave to a representative of former Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani, which led to bombshell reporting on its contents. Other probes plan to target 'weaponization' of government, with subpoenas of government officials in the offing while Biden is trying to prepare a budget and set the agenda for Washington.
