Adem Nikeziq, 30, broke down in court when he was told Adriana Sylmetaj, 23, was dead after he crashed a Dodge Challenger on Sunday morning. The vehicle smashed into three pieces and the woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Nikeziq - who is charged with manslaughter, driving under the influence, criminally negligent homicide and vehicular assault - stood with his head down in court today. At his previous hearing, Nikeziq was in a wheelchair, presumably from his own injures following the crash. But on Thursday he was able to stand up on his own. She was found at the intersection, with her leg about 20 feet from her body. Her unborn child was ripped from her body and was found 20 feet past her leg. She was around six months pregnant and expecting a daughter in April. Nikeziq claimed that a car had cut him off when he plowed into a utility pole at around 5am on Sunday morning, causing the vehicle to break into three parts. His lawyer Mark Fonte said he was the person who told Nikeziq that his fiancée and unborn child had died - as he did not yet know. The vehicle hit a barrier wall before spinning out and crashing into a wooden utility pole, police said. Nikeziq, a resident of the borough, was taken to the Staten Island University North Hospital after police noticed he was drunk, the spokesman said.
