A driver's handwritten warning to other vehicles that they 'drive slow' has left motorists divided over whether it's a considerate gesture or an indication they shouldn't be on the road.

A Melbourne driver snapped a photo of a note pasted to the rear windscreen of a car on Wednesday which appears to read: 'I drive is slow, kindly overtake.'

Some people read the sign as: 'If drive is slow, kindly overtake.'

The driver shared the note on Reddit, noting that they 'appreciate the heads up' - but others commenters under the post were less than impressed.

Hundreds of commenters slammed the driver for being aware they're travelling at a 'dangerous' speed but refusing to hurry up.
