A Yugoslavian-born prison escapee who risked deportation by turning himself in to Sydney police after 29 years on the run will be allowed to remain in Australia.
Darko ‘Dougie’ Desic, who escaped from Grafton Prison in 1992 after being jailed for growing dope, is a free man and no longer has to check over his shoulder.
After being granted a permanent visa, Darko shared the news on social media with friends.
'I am a free man again,' he wrote in a post on Monday night.
