Townsville boy Andre Daisy dies from meningitis after sore tummy, headache ... trends now

A young boy who died after his family spent a dream holiday in Queensland tragically lost his life just days after complaining about a sore tummy and headache.

Andre Daisy, five, was in Brisbane with his mum Trudy Stanley-Thaiday, step-dad Jarick and his three sisters on February 1 when he came down with flu-like symptoms on the last night of their holiday. 

The following day, Andre woke up with a headache and vomited but acted as his 'normal happy little self' with his mum believing he was suffering from a common 'tummy bug'. 

The family started their car ride home to Townsville but it wasn't until about 2pm as they were close to Gladstone when Andre suffered a seizure. 

His parents pulled over the car and immediately called the ambulance, however by the time he arrived at the hospital his seizures had increased and doctors placed him in an induced coma to allow his body to rest. 

An hour later doctors made the decision to airlift Andre more than 560km to the Queensland Children's Hospital in Brisbane. 

Andre arrived at the children's hospital at 11pm on Thursday night, with his family told he would make a recovery after promising MRI results showed he was stable.

Sadly, Andre did not respond despite an attempt by doctors to alleviate the swelling and pressure on his brain. 

On Saturday morning, doctors confirmed the worst and said there was nothing else they could do to save the little boy. 

At 5:45am on Sunday, Andre took his final breath - just one day before his first day of school. 

Andre's mother Trudy and his step-father Jarick along with his father Larson Daisy and his step-mother Lana were by his side in his final moments.
