This disgusting video of a huge rat crawling over a sleeping subway rider might be just the thing to hurry along New York City Mayor Eric Adams' hunt for a 'Rat Czar'

The footage, which lasts about 20 seconds, shows a man in gray jeans and a blue vest napping on an unidentified subway train. The rat suddenly crawls up the man's leg and onto his shoulders behind his head.

The sleeping straphanger - who has not been identified - then wakes up, reaches behind him and discovers the rat crawling back down his arm. Stunned, he jumps up as the rodent drops to the floor before the video suddenly ends.

The video emerged just weeks after the New York City Mayor unveiled a lucrative job posting for what he's dubbed the Big Apple's 'Rat Czar' - more formally known as Citywide Director of Rodent Mitigation.

The job, which pays between $120,000 to $170,000, was directed at anyone with a background in urban planning, project management, or government work.

But it seems the Democratic mayor also wants someone with a flair for the position.

Adams tweeted: 'There's NOTHING I hate more than rats. If you have the drive, determination, and killer instinct needed to fight New York City's relentless rat population - then your dream job awaits.'

The description goes even further, describing the job as doing 'the impossible' in stopping the city's rats. Applicants also need a 'swashbuckling attitude, crafty humor and general aura of badassery'.

The advert added that you will need 'stamina and stagecraft' and that 'the ideal candidate is highly motivated and somewhat bloodthirsty.' A knowledge of PowerPoint is also necessary.

The Mayor's Office did not respond to DailyMail.com's request for comment on whether the position had been filled - but application period has ended.
