A British dental patient had to travel nearly 3,000 miles to Turkey for a filling after failing to find even a private dentist in his hometown.

David Moore, from Bridlington, East Yorkshire, was due to have a broken tooth replaced by his private dentist but was unable to find treatment on the NHS or through a private firm within 30 miles of his home after his practice closed down.

It was then he decided to travel to Antalya, Turkey, to spend what he described as a 'fraction' of the cost he would have had to pay in the United Kingdom for the same work.  

Mr Moore said his treatment, which included the repair of the tooth and two implants, flights and hotel accommodation, cost around £2,000.

But it comes after the British Dental Association warned patients travelling abroad 'should be aware of the risks and alternatives to the treatment desired'.
